The Fleece and Firkin - 29th May 2005

Thought Forms will probably initially draw some attention because of their unusual line up: Two girls/one guy. Two guitars/Drums (no bass).
There's so much more.
They're highly inventive, play with confidence and style and have no obvious direct influences (although an interested observer did mention Bardo Pond and Explosions in the Sky...)

The short set they played on Sunday evening at the Fleece in Bristol was stunning.
Half a dozen or so instrumental pieces, the first being a very fine version of their featured track on the last Terrascope (Memento Mori) while another used a cut-and-paste interview with Richard Nixon as a fascinating backdrop.

Frail and elusive at times, their final number (Dust Magic) was a full on psychedelic blitz, crescendos of trailing colours dissolving in the ether.

Deej, Charlie and Emily are following their noses along a misty and mysterious psychedelic path. Lots of light and shade, high pitched and playful, a tremulous silvery sound that unfurls in lazy spirals.

These young cats from deep in the heart of Albion are the most intriguing UK band I've encountered in many a moon.
They're supporting the equally fabulous and tripped out Green Ray at The Plough in Walthamstow (their first big city date) on 5th July, catch them on the rise... oh yeah, they're recording at Moles in a few days time. I just can't wait to hear the results.
