GREEN RAY - LIVE, Tuesday 5th July 2005 @ The Plough, Walthamstow - London

Support : THOUGHT FORMS

I must make fair reference to the support - namely "Thought Forms". Just how much fun can three youngsters (2 gels and a laddie) have ? On this demonstration, their initial foray into the capital, the answer is "a lot" and they acquitted themselves well.

For those of you craving a tad more detail :-

A bassless trio of drums + guitars with peddles, effects and tapes. Result being various instrumental pieces - I'll have to catch up with titles next time. Anyway the format gelled well as a unit. The arrangements have plenty of dynamics - both from the guitarists and a very able drummer who made her way around the borrowed kit of Simon's with much relish and enthusiastic grins - the type of grin that says "I'm really enjoying this".
She's every right to smile, round these parts we like drummers who move around the kit and avoid the stereotyped approach to percussion chores. From a point of reference I found some of the moments reminiscent of more magical moments of The Chameleons wonderful chiming guitars.

Anyway, in conclusion, you'd have to say there was a fair amount of sage-like nodding among the Ray punters to suggest the future could be in safe hands. "Thought Forms" - remember the name and check them out if the opportunity arises !
